Getting Your Car Ready for Summer Holidays (UK Guide from Hoyles of Todmorden)

1. Check Your Tyres

Hotter roads and long motorway journeys can wear your tyres faster. Before you set off, here are a few things we recommend:

• Check tyre tread depth (legal minimum is 1.6mm, but we recommend 3mm for safety)
• Look for cracks, bulges, or uneven wear
• Check and top up tyre pressure (including the spare)

 2. Test Your Battery

Summer heat can put strain on your car battery, especially if it’s a few years old. If your car is slow to start or the electrics are flickering, it might be time for a check or replacement. We will happily get you booked in for a battery drop test -

A battery drop test measures how much voltage drops when the battery is put under load — usually by trying to start the engine. It's a quick way to see if your battery is still strong enough to crank the engine effectively.
 

3. Top Up Fluids

• Make sure the essentials are topped up:
• Coolant (important in hot weather)
• Oil
• Windscreen wash (especially important if you’re driving on bug-heavy country roads!)

5. Check Your Lights and Wipers
